🚨 U.S. REPORT LINKS KENYAN OFFICIALS, RECRUITERS AND RUSSIAN OFFICERS TO RECRUITMENT OF OVER 1,000 KENYANS FOR RUSSIA’S MILITARY

A report by U.S. analysts has raised fresh concerns over an alleged recruitment network involving Kenyan officials, recruitment agents and Russian officers, accused of facilitating the recruitment of more than 1,000 Kenyans to fight alongside Russian forces in the Russia–Ukraine war.

According to a Kenyan National Intelligence Service report presented to Parliament in February 2026, many Kenyans were allegedly lured by promises of lucrative civilian jobs before being sent to the front lines in Ukraine. The findings point to possible collusion involving rogue recruitment agencies and officials, allegations that have raised serious questions about accountability and the protection of Kenyan citizens abroad.

The Russian Embassy in Nairobi has denied that Russia illegally recruited Kenyans into its armed forces.

Who will be held accountable, and what more must be done to bring affected Kenyans home?

🚨 LAMU REFINERY: SHOW KENYANS THE ARITHMETIC

A 700,000-barrel-a-day refinery sounds spectacular.

But before the politicians arrive for the groundbreaking ceremony, there is one simple question:

WHERE WILL THE CRUDE COME FROM?

Kenya’s own crude production is nowhere near 700,000 barrels a day.

Uganda’s crude is linked to the Tanzania export route.

South Sudan already has established export arrangements and its own infrastructure challenges.

So how exactly does a 700,000-bpd refinery in Lamu secure enough crude — consistently and cheaply?

The answer appears to be imports.

And that creates another question:

At what cost?

Yes, Nigeria and India import crude.

But Nigeria is an oil-producing country.

India is located much closer to major Middle Eastern oil suppliers.

Kenya is not.

Every additional kilometre means additional logistics, freight, insurance and handling costs.

And a refinery doesn’t survive because it is big.

It survives because it can obtain cheap crude, move it efficiently, sell its products into a sufficiently large market and make money after all costs.

So let’s stop selling Kenyans the dream and start showing them the numbers.

Where will the 700,000 barrels come from?

What will each barrel cost when it reaches Lamu?

Who will buy the refined products?

What guarantees the refinery will operate at high utilisation?

Who is financing the project?

Who carries the losses if the economics don’t work?

Because when politicians are standing on the podium, everyone celebrates.

When contractors are getting contracts, everyone smiles.

But if the project eventually becomes commercially unsustainable, who ultimately carries the financial risk?

This is not about being pro-Dangote or anti-Dangote.

It is about Kenyan taxpayers demanding the numbers before committing to a project of this magnitude.

A groundbreaking ceremony is not a business model.

Show us the crude.
Show us the price.
Show us the market.
Show us the financing.
Show us the contracts.
Show us who carries the risk.

Kenya deserves the arithmetic before the applause.

Kenya, Uganda and South Africa have been selected to prepare for the production of a new once-a-month HIV prevention pill.

The drug, called alimatravir (MK-8527), is being developed by MSD/Merck and is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical trials.

Manufacturers selected in Africa are Universal Corporation Limited in Kenya, Quality Chemical Industries Limited in Uganda and Aspen Pharmacare in South Africa.

With support from Unitaid, the companies are preparing their manufacturing capacity early so they could produce the drug locally if trials are successful and regulators approve it.

The move could help make new HIV prevention medicines available faster in Africa while strengthening the continent’s ability to manufacture advanced medicines locally.

Kenya is seeking to advance the planned dualling of the Nairobi Northern Bypass and two other major infrastructure projects from the pipeline to implementation following fresh talks with Chinese development officials.

National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo said the projects were among priority programmes discussed during a meeting in Beijing with China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Vice Chairman Liu Junfeng.

The 20.2-kilometre Northern Bypass runs from Ruaka in Kiambu County to Ruiru, where it connects with the Eastern Bypass. The government approved its conversion into a dual carriageway in June 2025, with the upgrade expected to include eight interchanges, overpasses and underpasses, pedestrian walkways, cycle paths, improved drainage and upgrades to connecting roads.

Kenya has been pursuing Chinese financing for the project, with the Treasury previously announcing China EximBank’s approval of financing under the Preferential Buyer’s Credit arrangement. #Kenya #China

🇰🇪 178 Police Officers Receive KSh178 Million Compensation

At least 178 police officers have received a combined KSh178 million in compensation for deaths and injuries sustained while responding to demonstrations and public protests.

Two officers who died received KSh3 million each, while officers who suffered severe injuries received varying amounts.

The compensation programme is also processing claims from civilians affected by human-rights violations during the protests.

Should police officers injured or killed during protests receive compensation in the same way as civilian victims?

Kenya’s got it. Nairobi will host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, the first time the senior Worlds have ever been staged in Africa.

The call came today in Budapest. Nairobi beat London and Rome. Munich gets 2031.

Sebastian Coe called Kenya’s bid “compelling and emotional.” He said athletics is “woven into the fabric of the country,” and that this was the right moment to take the championships to Africa.

It’ll be at Kasarani about 48,000 seats, already being done up for AFCON 2027.

Kenya is already one of the great athletics nations: 72 world titles, 38 Olympic golds, mostly on the track in middle and long distance. Kipchoge helped sell the bid. Nairobi’s hosted the U18s in 2017 and the U20s in 2021. They missed out on 2025. This time they didn’t.

Tokyo 2027, Nairobi 2029, Munich 2031. After years of winning medals abroad, Kenya now gets to host the main event at home. #Nairobi #Kenya

Kenyan arrested by Lewisville Police-Texas for Criminal Trespassing and Evading Arrest on Foot.

On September 5, 2026, officers responded to a call where a criminal trespass had occurred. Upon arrival, they encountered 35-year-old Victor Karanja Kangethe who tried to flee on foot. Officers ran after him and were able to apprehend them shortly after.

Kangethe is being charged with Criminal Trespass and Evading Arrest Detention. His bond was set at $5,000, but ICE has requested an immigration hold on him.

Arrest records show two previous arrests. In May 2025, he spent a month and a half in the Denton County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2.

In February 2, 2026, he was arrested also for Possession of a Controlled Substance and for Failing to Identify as a Fugitive by Providing False Information. He spent 4 months in jail and was released on June 29, 2026.

Since he is in the country illegally, it is unclear why he was released and not deported. Kangethe is originally from #kenya. #USA

WHY TATA GROUP IS TOO BIG FOR KENYA TO FIGHT

TATA GROUP annual earnings is us$180B …. Kshs. 24 Trillion!

Kenya’s annual exports are paltry Kshs. One Trillion … our budget of Kshs. 5 Trillion is underpinned by taxes & borrowings!

We need TATA more than they need us. Comparing TATA to Kenya is like comparing a Boda Boda to a Range Rover or Carrefour to a kiosk. We are too small. Patriotism can’t compensate poverty.

Few excited Kenyans who want to flatter the President will cheer the expulsion of TATA just as they are the expulsion of Burundi people. Kenya’s economy is too small to fight conglomerates like TATA or to be seen to be xenophobic. #Kenya

✈️🥦 FRESH PRODUCE EXPORTERS WANT A NATIONAL AVIATION PROTOCOL

Kenya’s fresh produce exporters are calling for a national aviation protocol dedicated to perishable exports, saying the current system is making it harder and more expensive to get fruits, vegetables and flowers to international markets on time.

For fresh produce, time is money — delays at airports, cargo handling challenges, limited capacity and unpredictable logistics can quickly turn valuable produce into waste.

Exporters want the government and aviation stakeholders to establish a clear, coordinated framework that prioritises perishable cargo from the farm to the aircraft and ultimately to the international market.

A reliable aviation system could mean:

🥑 Faster cargo handling
✈️ More predictable flight capacity
📦 Better cold-chain coordination
🌍 More competitive Kenyan exports
👨🏽‍🌾 Better returns for farmers

Kenya has the farmers, the climate and the markets. What we need is a logistics system that doesn't allow our produce to rot before it reaches the customer.

🚨 MIRU SYSTEMS: A GLOBAL ELECTION-TECHNOLOGY COMPANY FACING SERIOUS QUESTIONS OVER ITS TRACK RECORD

South Korean election-technology company Miru Systems, founded in 1999, has supplied or deployed election technology across a number of countries, including South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, Russia, Iraq, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Philippines, Fiji, El Salvador and Guinea-Conakry. Miru itself lists these countries among its international election projects, while its current corporate history also identifies major projects in Iraq, DRC, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and the Philippines.

But its international record has attracted significant scrutiny.

🇨🇩 DRC: Miru's election technology became the subject of major concerns over reliability, security and ballot secrecy during the 2018 electoral process. A former Congolese prime minister also filed a complaint against Miru with the Korean National Contact Point under the OECD Guidelines.

🇮🇶 IRAQ: Miru secured a major contract to supply electronic vote-counting equipment for Iraq's elections, with the deal reportedly worth about US$100 million. The country's subsequent electoral process faced serious disputes over vote-counting technology and results.

🇵🇭 PHILIPPINES: Miru won an almost ₱18 billion contract to supply an automated election system for the 2025 elections, including approximately 110,000 automated counting machines. The contract attracted scrutiny from election watchdogs because of Miru's previous international record.

🇿🇲 ZAMBIA: Miru has also been involved in the country's voter-registration technology procurement ahead of the 2026 elections. Transparency International Zambia raised serious concerns about the procurement process and cited Miru's controversial record in previous elections.

🇦🇷 ARGENTINA: Miru technology was also associated with proposed electronic voting systems for Argentina, while reporting at the time raised questions about the procurement and subsequent use of the technology.

The broader international footprint includes Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, Russia, Fiji, El Salvador and Guinea-Conakry, according to Miru's own company history and corporate materials.

⚠️ Important: These controversies do not by themselves prove that Miru Systems rigged elections. However, the documented disputes, technical concerns, procurement controversies and scrutiny surrounding some of its deployments raise legitimate questions about transparency, cybersecurity, independent auditing, source-code access, procurement integrity and safeguards against manipulation.

The question every country using election technology should be asking is simple:

Who independently audits the system?
Who can verify the source code?
Who controls the technology?
And what happens when the system fails?

🗳️ Election technology should never be trusted blindly. It must be independently tested, auditable and verifiable.

Kenyan Living in the US Arrested by ICE Outside Church

A Kenyan man living in the United States was reportedly arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers outside a church and now faces possible deportation after allegedly overstaying his visa.

The incident has sparked concern among Kenyans in the diaspora, particularly over the consequences of falling out of legal immigration status. For someone who has spent years building a life, working and establishing community ties in the US, an immigration violation can have serious consequences.

The case is also a reminder to Kenyans abroad to carefully monitor their immigration status and seek qualified legal advice when facing visa or immigration challenges. Enforcement actions can have life-changing consequences, and having strong community connections does not necessarily prevent immigration authorities from taking action.

Thoughts and prayers go to the man and his family during this difficult time. May the matter be handled fairly, with justice and compassion. #Kenya

UGANDA IS BUILDING TOWARDS AN OIL-POWERED INDUSTRIAL FUTURE — AND KENYA SHOULD BE WATCHING.

Uganda's long-awaited US$4 billion oil refinery project is moving forward, with basic engineering work already underway and a Final Investment Decision now expected in February 2027.

The planned Kabaale refinery in Hoima will have a capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will be supported by pipelines, storage facilities and a water-supply system.

The ambition goes beyond simply producing fuel.

Reduce dependence on imported petroleum products
🏭 Supply fuel and other products to local industries
💰 Generate government revenue
⛽ Develop domestic refining capacity
🚛 Support petroleum storage and distribution infrastructure
🌍 Create opportunities to supply regional markets

Uganda's strategy is increasingly about capturing more value from its own oil resources instead of simply exporting crude and importing finished petroleum products.

But there is an important reality check:

The refinery is not starting production in 2026. Current projections point to commercial operations around 2029–2030, assuming the project proceeds according to the revised schedule.

This raises an important question for East Africa:

Why should countries blessed with natural resources remain permanently dependent on importing finished products?

Uganda is betting on refining, infrastructure and industrialisation.

The bigger question is whether the region can turn its natural resources into jobs, cheaper energy, manufacturing and lasting wealth for ordinary citizens.

East Africa should be competing to build industries—not just competing to export raw materials.

KENYA'S DEBT PROBLEM IS NOW COMPETING DIRECTLY WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR FOR BANK MONEY

Kenyan commercial banks are increasingly putting deposits into government securities rather than expanding lending to businesses and households.

That should worry every Kenyan entrepreneur.

Government securities are attractive to banks because they offer relatively predictable returns with far less credit risk than lending to struggling businesses.

The result?

Government gets the money. Businesses struggle to access affordable credit.

Kenya's public debt has now crossed the **KSh13 trillion** mark, while the government continues to rely heavily on domestic borrowing.

For the 2026/27 financial year, Treasury's borrowing plan places heavy emphasis on domestic financing, with around KSh1 trillion expected from the local market.

Think about what that means.

Every shilling that banks put into Treasury bills and bonds is a shilling that could potentially have financed:

🏪 A small business
🏭 A manufacturer
🌾 A farmer
🏠 A mortgage
💻 A technology startup
👨🏾‍💼 A young entrepreneur

This is the danger of crowding out.

The government can borrow heavily because it has the power to tax and repay. A small business doesn't have that luxury.

And when government debt offers banks an attractive risk-adjusted return, why take the risk of lending to a struggling SME?

Kenya therefore faces a bigger question than simply "How much debt do we have?"

The question is:

How much private-sector growth are we sacrificing to finance government borrowing?

We need an economy where banks are financing businesses, innovation, manufacturing, housing and jobs—not an economy where the safest business for banks is simply lending to the government.

Government borrowing should finance productive development, not crowd out the people who are supposed to create the next generation of Kenyan jobs.

MPs Warn Against Tighter Highway Speed Limits

Members of Parliament have urged the NTSA not to introduce stricter speed limits on Kenyan highways, warning that the move could worsen traffic congestion and increase travel times.

NTSA currently enforces speed limits ranging from 50 km/h in urban areas to 110 km/h on open highway stretches, while motorists found overspeeding can face fines of up to KSh10,000.

The debate comes as authorities seek to balance road safety with efficient movement of traffic across the country. #Nairobi #Kenya #NTSA

The 2027 National Prayer Breakfast has sparked public debate after claims that the event cost taxpayers KSh43 million, up from an earlier allocation of KSh26 million.

Critics are questioning the sharp increase, particularly at a time when some Kenyan schools still lack basic infrastructure and students are forced to learn under trees.

The controversy has also raised questions about the use of public funds and the involvement of the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature in the annual event.

KSh43 million to pray, while some children learn under trees — is this really the best use of public money? 🇰🇪

On 22 August 1978, President Kenyatta died at the Coast.

According to accounts, Moi was quickly moved to Nairobi under General Service Unit protection, reportedly just ahead of any planned action against him.

Within hours, a Cabinet meeting was convened. Moi was sworn in as Acting President.

The alleged plot collapsed before it could unfold.

In the weeks that followed, Charles Njonjo publicly signalled a crackdown on those linked to the Ngoroko allegations. Intelligence and civil service officials indicated that investigations were underway.

James Mungai soon fled the country, moving through Sudan and into exile in Switzerland. He later left his pistol at an immigration desk; an act widely interpreted as symbolic surrender.

From exile, he wrote pleading letters seeking reconciliation and eventually returned to Kenya.

In a notable act of restraint, Moi did not pursue him publicly or politically upon his return. #Kenya #Moi

OPINION: President William Ruto's political standing appears to be facing one of its biggest tests since taking office.

Critics argue that his latest speech lacked major policy announcements and failed to shift attention from recent opposition political engagements. They also point to growing reports of leaders leaving UDA and increasing challenges in mobilizing public support without significant financial expenditure.

Just a few years ago, Ruto was viewed as one of Africa's most influential political figures, actively engaging on the international stage and speaking confidently about Kenya's long-term future. Today, however, some analysts believe the political landscape has shifted dramatically, with the opposition becoming more coordinated ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Whether this marks a temporary setback or the beginning of a broader political decline remains to be seen. Kenyan politics has often proven unpredictable, and the next election is still some time away.

Do you think President Ruto can rebuild his political momentum before 2027, or has the tide already turned?

🚨 More than 1,000 elderly men and women were allegedly charged KSh 3,000 each after being promised a trip to State House to meet President William Ruto and receive title deeds for Mau Mau land.

According to the claims, the group was instead taken to the Ameru Cultural Festival at Carnivore Grounds in Lang'ata, where they reportedly found themselves attending a cultural event with political speeches instead of the promised State House meeting.

The allegations have sparked outrage, with many questioning who organized the trip, collected the money, and whether the elderly participants were misled.
