SHOCKING: A Kenyan court just gave a man 25% of his wife’s house in Karen.

She says paid for most of it in 2006.

She sold her Langata house for KSh5.2 million and put the money toward the Karen house.

Her mother gave her over KSh10.3 million and told the court it was for her daughter and grandchildren, not for him.

She took the big loans in her own name, KSh6.165M mortgage, KSh3M and KSh1.5M, and serviced them from her salary.

He on the other hand showed about KSh3.1 million in direct financial contributions.

He also told the court he helped with the children and household, school fees, food and day-to-day expenses when he was around.

The court accepted some of that.

Then it still awarded him 25% of the house.

Not 25% of what the house cost back then.

25% of what the Karen house is worth today. Which means he is to get over 10 million ksh.

She now has to raise the cash and buy him out, or the house can be sold.

So the argument is this:

She built the purchase.

He says he helped keep the family standing.

One of those became ownership of her asset.

Is looking after your own children and contributing to household expenses enough to own part of a house your wife and her mother largely paid for?

Quite an interesting ruling.
