CHRISTIANITY IN KIRINYAGA (Part 1)

Before it was called Kirinyaga, the place was called Ndia.

From 1885 to 1911, Ndia was part of Mbiri District, which is today's Murang'a. Because there was only one white man's fort for all of Central Kenya; Fort Hall at Mbiri, built in 1900 by Francis Hall had very few white officers, so all of Kiambu, Murang'a, Ndia and Embu were ruled from Mbiri.

From 1912 to 1932, Ndia was moved to Nyeri District. In 1906 the British attacked Embu with Mbeere and Kikuyu collaborators. After that war they opened new bomas at Nyeri and Embu. It was now easier to control Ndia from Nyeri than from far Mbiri.

From 1933 to 1963, Ndia was moved again to Embu. The colonialists created tribal reserves. They said Ndia, Gichugu, Embu and Mbeere are one related group. So they put them under one District Commissioner at Embu to collect tax, forced labour and count livestock easily.

It was only in 1963 at independence that Kirinyaga was made a separate district. Population was big, people demanded their own district after Mau Mau, and it was named after its nearest mountain to the north, Mountain Kirinyaga (Mt. Kenya). #Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga Mourns the Death of Nominated MCA Beatrice Njoki Mitaru

Kirinyaga County is mourning the death of Beatrice Njoki Mitaru, the specially elected MCA representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the County Assembly. She died on Monday, August 24, 2026, while receiving treatment at Outspan Hospital in Nyeri.

Mitaru had served in the Kirinyaga County Assembly since 2017, earning recognition for her advocacy for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities. She also held several committee positions within the assembly and served in the Persons with Disabilities Chapter of the County Assemblies Forum.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru mourned Mitaru as a dedicated public servant whose commitment, warmth and spirit of service left a lasting mark on the county.

Her death marks the loss of a long-serving voice for persons with disabilities and a prominent figure in Kirinyaga's devolved leadership. #Kirinyaga

It was on March 31, 2025, that Jane Kagiri first said Laikipia ISN'T Mt Kenya but Rift Valley.
On August 16, 2025, Susan Kihika said Nakuru is Rift Valley, not Central Kenya.
On August 27, 2025, Kimani Ichung’wah said Kiambu is not part of the Mt Kenya region.
On June 14, 2026, Geoffrey Ruku openly pushed the Mt Kenya East–West divide.
Then, on August 11, 2026, Gachoki said Kirinyaga sits between East and West and should chart its own path.
Look at those dates. These things SUDDENLY became important after the political marriage between Ruto and H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH ENDED.
These are things we never used to fight over like this. We always spoke as one.
There’s a man who calls himself patriotic, seated somewhere, who is systematically dismantling the political foundation of our people. He is hell-bent on making sure Murima never remain ONE again.
Now leaders from Nakuru, Embu, Kiambu and Laikipia are busy arguing over which murima people belong where instead of asking the BIGGEST QUESTIONS. They come with flowery and clever language to explain these new divisions.
If we aren't careful, by the time this is over and the man they are hunting votes for is long gone, we may look back and ask ourselves: What did we allow them to do to us?
We will have divided our own people into smaller and smaller pieces. We will have lost the sense that we belong together. We will have lost parts of our culture, our shared history and the political strength that came from standing together.
And the people who caused all this division will have moved on. #Elections2027 #Muranga #Kiambu #Nakuru #kirinyaga
