The United States is seeking to deploy advanced mining and mineral-processing technologies in Kenya as Washington deepens cooperation with Nairobi on the development of critical minerals.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia said the technology could support mineral extraction and refining while helping Kenya increase local value addition. He said the U.S. approach is to provide technology and expertise rather than directly take over mining operations.
The initiative follows recent discussions between Garcia and President William Ruto on Kenya’s mining sector, including efforts to develop strategic resources such as rare earth elements and niobium. #USA
