Tanzania Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi Resigns, Retires From Politics

Tanzania’s Vice President Emmanuel John Nchimbi has resigned from office and announced his retirement from politics and public service, with his decision taking effect on September 4, 2026.

Nchimbi said he had formally submitted his resignation to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday, August 25. He indicated that the decision was in line with a commitment he made to the President when he took office, including stepping aside if she felt the need for a change in her deputy.

His departure, coming less than a year after assuming the vice presidency, paves the way for President Samia to select a new deputy and marks Nchimbi’s exit from a political career spanning more than three decades. #Tanzania
