South Korea has demanded an explanation and apology from Ukraine after President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly revealed the transfer of two North Korean soldiers captured in Russia’s Kursk region to Seoul.
Seoul said the disclosure violated a confidentiality arrangement reached between the two governments and accused Kyiv of later falsely denying that such an agreement existed.
The two North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces in January 2025 after being deployed to support Russia. They were later secretly transferred to South Korea after expressing a desire to defect.
Ukraine has rejected Seoul’s claims, with presidential advisers denying that a binding non-disclosure agreement was in place and arguing that the public had a right to know about the captured soldiers.
South Korea has described the episode as a serious breach of trust and said it is considering further measures. #SouthKorea #Ukraine
