In 2004, a black bear made headlines after reportedly consuming 36 cans of beer at a campground in the United States.

The bear had entered a campsite where campers had left alcoholic drinks accessible, giving the animal an unexpected opportunity to investigate the beverages.

Black bears have an exceptionally strong sense of smell, which helps them locate food from considerable distances, including human food and garbage at campsites.

According to accounts of the incident, the bear became intoxicated and was found lying around the campground.

When wildlife officials attempted to drive it away, the animal reportedly climbed a tree and settled down to rest.

The following day, it was allegedly spotted returning to the area in search of more beer.

The story became a memorable example of how wildlife can be attracted to human food and drinks when campsites are not properly secured.
