Imagine inventing the mobile phone and making your very first call to the man leading the rival team. 💀📱
That’s exactly what happened in 1973.
Motorola engineer Martin Cooper stepped onto a New York sidewalk carrying a 2.5-pound prototype and made the first public call from a handheld mobile phone.
And who did he call?
Joel Engel — the engineer leading Motorola’s rival team at Bell Labs. 😂
The first commercial handheld mobile phone arrived 11 years later, selling for nearly $4,000 at the time—roughly $13,000 in today’s money.
Today, billions of people carry smartphones descended from that groundbreaking invention, at a fraction of the original cost.
Imagine calling your biggest rival just to say: “Guess what? I beat you.” 😂📱
