Côte d’Ivoire has rejected a US proposal to accept deported migrants who are not its citizens, joining other African nations opposing this policy.
The US has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to persuade countries to participate in its third-country deportation programme.
Since January 2025, over 25,000 migrants have been deported from the US to third countries, with agreements involving at least 13 African nations.
Other countries such as Nigeria and Burkina Faso have also publicly refused to accept deportees from the US. #Nigeria #USA
