🇪🇹 BREAKING: HEAVY FIGHTING ERUPTS IN ETHIOPIA
Heavy fighting has erupted in northern Ethiopia as Tigrayan forces clash with federal government troops, raising fears of a return to the devastating Tigray war.
Tigrayan forces have reportedly seized Mekelle airport and launched attacks in parts of neighbouring Afar and Amhara regions. Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights to three airports in Tigray. (Reuters)
The escalation comes just days after seven armed groups announced an alliance seeking to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government and establish a transitional administration. The coalition includes the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Amhara Fano and the Oromo Liberation Army. (Reuters)
The renewed violence threatens to unravel the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement that ended the previous Tigray conflict.
