Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai is facing a court case filed by a University of Kabianga student.

The petitioner, Maureen Chepkirui, is a fourth year student at the university.

She is seeking Sh200,000 in monthly child support from the governor.

According to her court papers, Ms. Chepkirui accuses Dr. Mutai of failing in his parental responsibility.

She alleges he has not provided protection, maintenance, or basic necessities for their one year old child.

Court documents indicate that the governor has allegedly frustrated attempts to register the child's birth certificate.

This is said to be through his failure to provide his national identity card details.

Ms. Chepkirui further claims that she once went to the governor's official residence in Kericho with the baby to seek financial help.

She alleges that security officers turned her away on his instructions.

Apart from monthly upkeep, the student wants the court to compel Dr. Mutai to provide comprehensive medical cover for the child.

She is also seeking Sh200,000 in exemplary damages over alleged violations of the child's constitutional rights.

The Children's Court declined to issue emergency interim financial orders.

The court directed that the matter proceed to full hearing.

In the meantime, the court ordered that Governor Mutai be granted access to the child as the case continues. #Kericho

Catherine Nafula, a resident of Kericho, says her experience receiving treatment at Kericho Referral Hospital has shown her that healthcare services are gradually improving. She notes that patients are now receiving better attention, undergoing thorough assessments, and accessing improved treatment, while laboratory services have expanded to include more tests.

However, she would like the hospital to offer additional diagnostic services, particularly cancer screening and tests for diseases such as cholera, to help patients identify health conditions early and receive timely treatment. She also hopes the facility will have more qualified doctors to enhance patient care.

Catherine also recalls that admission services were previously poor, with some patients left without adequate attention. Based on her experience, she says the hospital has made significant progress, with improved services and patient care heading in the right direction. #Kericho
